Falcondo Foundation
In 1989, Falcondo established a non-profit foundation designed to encourage development in the areas of health, education, environment and culture. The Falcondo Foundation also enables area residents to plan and carry out development activities by supporting projects related to the preservation and management of natural resources. Over the past 16 years, the company has donated approximately USD $10 million and has reforested over 500 hectares of land. In 2005, the Foundation received recognition from the Organization of States of America, as one of the “corporate citizens of the Americas” for its community initiatives.
At Falcondo mined-out areas are contoured and reforested with fast-growing and soil remediating species which permit the return of native species. In 2007, a school for Falcondo employees which is also open to the community won a prize as the best school in IberoAmerica. Falcondo sponsors an international biennial art contest in Bonao which is one of the country’s largest.
